This picture was taken by Umang in Junga. We were on our way to Chail. The regularly used route takes one through Kufri- which we like to avoid due to the jams at Kufri. Also it is painful to see the mess that was once such a pretty place.
Our route takes us from Kasumpti via Ashwani Khud, Junga and Chail.
We were driving through Junga when I spotted this pair sitting calmly on a peach tree outside a house. We managed to get one good picture before our presence disturbed them and they flew into a large leafy fig tree some distance away.
A very lucky sighting I think as we have driven this route umpteen times. This is the first time we have ever seen this bird. According to my Oxford guide this is a Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon. Hope for more encounters with this pretty flier.
Our only other encounter with a colourful pigeon was in Pench tiger reserve where we met its cousin the yellow footed Green Pigeon... but this was a better sighting by far , as mostly what we saw then was a flash of green and yellow feet.
